As a supporter of the Scrap Trident Coalition and a member of the executive committee of the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, John Wilson, MSP for Central Scotland, was keen to show his backing to the Scrap Trident Demonstration and Blockade to be held 13-15 April by taking part in a photo call in the Scottish Parliament last week.
Commenting on the upcoming weekend of protest and action, he said:
I have been a long time campaigner against nuclear weapons and I certainly believe that Scotland should lead the way to a nuclear free world. The Scrap Trident campaign is the right step forward and I would encourage anyone who opposes nuclear weapons to join us and voice their concerns during the weekend of action next month.
Nuclear weapons like Trident missiles have no place in Scottish waters and do not belong to 21st century Scotland. In terms of defence, the threats we may be facing nowadays are varied and we need to think differently about how to address them; nuclear weapons are not the answer to today’s security challenges.
